Lay-Up
A deliberately short shot played to a safe distance instead of trying to reach the green or clear a hazard in one go.
Laying up trades a low-probability, high-risk shot for a shorter, easier one, common on long par 5s or when a hazard sits right in front of the ideal distance. It's a strategic choice, not a sign of a weak shot, many tour pros lay up regularly when the numbers favor it.
